Skype - Free Internet telephony that just works

It may be neat, and certainly useful for making overseas calls cheaply, but I've failed utterly to get anyone I know to sign up and use this. My family isn't geeky enough. So who really uses this? Based on the people trying to call my wife, I'm guessing young, male students in Eastern Europe and Turkey.
